Reading Strategies for Middle School and Beyond
Good Readers use a number of strategies as they read, often without even realizing it. We will be spending a great deal of time reviewing and practicing these strategies this year in the Reading Lab.

out the meaning of unfamiliar words by using decoding skills and context clues.
Read
to Clarify
Stop
reading and refocus when the text does not make sense.
Monitor
for Understanding
Ask
and answer questions to make sure you understand what you are reading.
Summarize
and Share
Retell
what you have read to remember main ideas and important details.
